Superintendent Kyle Repucci to leave Rochester schools

ROCHESTER — Superintendent Kyle Repucci announced his intention to leave SAU 54, the city's school district, at the end of June.

In a letter to faculty, staff and families, Repucci said he will not extend his contract when it expires at the end of the 2023-24 school year.

"The eight years spent serving this incredible community and collaborating with such amazing individuals like yourselves will forever hold a cherished place in my heart," Repucci wrote. "Serving the community where I was raised and lived for roughly 30 years has been an absolute privilege."

Repucci confirmed the decision when reached by email Friday morning. In his letter, he said he would continue to work with the district to assure a smooth transition

"The decision was not an easy one," he wrote. "The relationships built and the shared experiences we've made had make departing a bittersweet moment."

Paul Lynch, current School Board chair, said he was a bit shocked, not having anticipated the move. But he praised Repucci and wished him well.

"I didn't know this was coming," said Lynch, who did not seek reelection and will leave the board soon. "I think Kyle is one of the most hardworking people I ever met. He will be severely missed. He has done great things here and if he thinks it's time to move on, I wish him the best and know he will be valued wherever he decides to go."

Lynch said Repucci's shepherding of the district through the COVID pandemic was a big part of how they made things work.

"He worked to find us the funding we needed to make the process work," said Lynch. "He worked so hard to protect both the students and the staff. There are a lot of wonderful things here because of Kyle."

Lynch said the next steps are for the incoming school board to accept his resignation. He said the board and incoming board have plenty of time to discuss how to hire Repucci's replacement.
