PERRY TWP. – Rumors started last week that Superior Dairy was discontinuing its French onion dip. That's not entirely true.

But the company has confirmed it has temporarily paused production of chip dip.

“Today’s labor environment continues to be challenging for many businesses," Superior Dairy customer service manager Carolyn Schoeppner said via email. "We've made the difficult business decision to temporarily pause the production of Superior Dairy's chip dip in order to create a more consistent and balanced work schedule for our employees.

“Many of our employees are putting in continuous long work hours, and it is simply not sustainable. Our employees are one of the many reasons our Superior Dairy products are outstanding, and they are our No. 1 priority.”

“We will continue to evaluate opportunities to best stabilize our workforce and enhance our product offerings while ensuring we continue to deliver quality products to our customers. We loved our chip dip as much as anyone and will miss it alongside all of our devoted customers. You can continue to find other Superior Dairy products at our typical retail outlets.”

The announcement also was posted to Superior Dairy’s Facebook page.

There was no date given for when to expect to see more Superior chip dip on local store shelves.

The Michigan Milk Producers Association in Novi, Michigan, announced late last year that it was acquiring Superior Dairy. At the time, Superior Dairy shipped milk to customers in 44 states, with much of the product co-packaged and sold under a private brand label by large retailers around the country. Superior brand products also are found locally at retailers.

The company, which was formed in 1922, had been expanding in recent years, spending $25 million on improvements since 2017.
