Superior High School principal moving to Lake Superior Elementary

Mar. 15—SUPERIOR — The search will begin this week for a new Superior High School principal.

Current Principal Rick Flaherty has announced that he will be leaving the high school July 1 to take on a new role: principal at Superior's Lake Superior Elementary School. Dan Hicks, who is principal at the elementary school, is retiring, according to District Administrator Amy Starzecki.

SHS parents received an email from Flaherty on Tuesday, March 15, about the upcoming change. Starzecki said the position will be posted this week, with interviews expected to take place in April.

"I will keep the SHS community updated as we proceed," Starzecki said.

Flaherty served as principal at Superior Middle School for 14 years before accepting the job as SHS principal in 2019.

He is not the only administrator leaving SHS. Assistant Principal Bill Punyko is retiring at the end of the school year, a move that was approved by the school board in January.
