Supernatural creator already plotting The Boys season 3 role for Jeffrey Dean Morgan
Let’s not hold our breaths until it’s official, but we may be witnessing TV magic in the making.
On Thursday, Jeffrey Dean Morgan began tweeting out his love for Amazon’s The Boys, which was created for the screen by his pal Eric Kripke, the architect of the CW’s Supernatural. This launched into a back-and-forth between the two, and it seems Kripke is already plotting to induct his John Winchester actor into the world of superheroes gone wild.
“LOVE @TheBoys TV” Morgan tweeted. “CANT WAIT FOR SEASON 2!!! @antonystarr @KarlUrban I’ll go play with that gang anytime. @therealKripke knows.”
In return for “spreading The Boys gospel,” Kripke wrote back, “I’ll make you a deal. Season 3. I’ll write it, and if you’re avail, come shoot it! Thanks for all the love, brother.”

On the surface, it may seem like two longtime colleagues and friends having fun with some hypotheticals. Season 2 was already filmed, and Amazon has not officially renewed the show for season 3. But once you’re in Kripke’s circle, you’re in.
For The Boys season 2, scheduled to premiere on Amazon sometime this year, Kripke tapped Goran Visnjic and Claudia Doumit, two actors from his days on Timeless, for new roles. Malcolm Barrett also starred on Timeless, and he had a role in the first season of The Boys as a Vought Marketing executive who had a particularly icy breakup with a superhero. He will now have a larger part to play in season 2. Then there’s Giancarlo Esposito, who worked with Kripke on NBC’s Revolution. Kripke kept him in mind for the surprise Mr. Edgar cameo in season 1. His part, too, will be expanded in the new episodes.
In short, it’s not out of the realm of possibilities for this Twitter “deal” with Kripke and Morgan to bear fruit.
The Boys continues the F-bomb-laced exploits of the Seven, a group of totally corrupt superheroes who use good deeds and rescue missions as PR stunts to mask their narcissism and sociopathy, and the street-level vigilantes known as the Boys, who fight to keep them in check.
Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Karen Fukuhara, Laz Alonzo, Tomer Capon, Erin Moriarty, Antony Starr, Jessie Usher, Chace Crawford, Dominique McElligott, Nathan Mitchell, and new addition Aya Cash star in season 2.
