Superyacht Smashes Through Dock at St Maarten's Simpson Bay

A 250-foot luxury yacht crashed through a dock at Simpson Bay, Sint Maarten, on Wednesday morning, February 24, after a computer malfunction on board caused it to lose its steering, according to local media.

The yacht was trying to leave its berth at Ile de Sol Marina shortly after 10 am when it began moving toward a wooden dock at Sint Maarten Yacht Club, the Daily Herald reported.

The Sint Maarten Yacht Club said the crew had “lost control over the vessel and hit the dock.” No one was injured but the dock sustained “significant” damage, they said. The dock would be out of use until further notice, they added, and sailing lessons were canceled for the remainder of the week.

The yacht, named Go, was designed by H2 Yacht Design and built by Turquoise Yachts, according to the manufacturer’s website. It was purchased in 2017 and was delivered in March 2018. The yacht has room to accommodate 18 guests and up to 20 crew members, as well as a swimming pool, space for a 33-foot (10-meter) limousine, and a 1,750-square-foot (162 sq. m) “superyacht beach club,” the designers wrote.
