Supply-chain issues keep Big Snow shut months after fire at American Dream attraction
EAST RUTHERFORD — The reopening date of American Dream's Big Snow indoor ski resort is still in question, months after a small fire shut down the slope.
An overnight fire broke out in the 16-story, 180,000-square-foot ski and snowboard park in September. The damage was contained to a small area of the snow dome.
"While we had hoped to be in a place by this time where we could announce our reopening date, unfortunately, we find ourselves stuck in the middle of logistical constraints and global manufacturing delays," Big Snow, one of American Dream's longest-running tenants, said in a social media post on Thursday.
The building has been able to maintain an appropriate temperature, minimizing snow loss. The attraction bills itself as "America’s only indoor, year-round, real-snow ski and snowboard resort." Temperatures are kept at 28 degrees.
There is no projected opening date at this time.
Last month, The Shop at Big Snow, a store that sells snowboards, skis, boots and other winter accessories directly outside the Big Snow entrance, reopened to the public.

Big Snow saluted the "quick and expert" response of the Meadowlands Fire Department, local fire departments and its maintenance team.
The park said it would continue to issue updates on progress. The ski resort will be issuing automatic refunds to people who had booked visits and will also be extending its multi-use cards.
"Once we have a date we can commit to, you will be the first to know," Big Snow said on social media. "Until then, we hope you are enjoying the snow outdoors and trust that we will be back stronger than ever just as soon as we can."
