Support pours into Florida from across U.S. in wake of monster storm

Port Charlotte, Florida – Support from across the country is pouring into the state of Florida in the wake of last week’s Category 4 monster storm.

Doctors and nurses with the Disaster Medical Assistance Team from Massachusetts traveled to Sarasota over the weekend to set up an emergency department.

A 45-member team from Massachusetts Search and Rescue is also assisting on the ground in Florida.

Volunteers from across the Bay State have also flown down to the Sunshine State to help people with basic necessities.

“We feel blessed to have support from other states because it shows the resilience of our country and how we come together in times of crisis,” said Capt. Israel Roseno with the Salvation Army of Port Charlotte.

Capt. Roseno said the support will be needed for many weeks to come as hundreds of thousands of people are still without power.

People can send donations to organizations like the Salvation Army to help fund supplies.

Donations can be made via 1-800-SAL-ARMY.
