January is a time for renewal and resolutions. At YoungArts, it also marks a time for active listening to the honest, unfiltered and transformative truths offered by young artists who represent a new age.
In Miami — YoungArts’ home for 40 years — January brings a perfect balance of cooler temperatures and sunny days. It’s an enticing invitation for artists from across the country to take refuge from the cold and snow and to participate in a week of art-making. This year, in an effort to ensure the safety of all artists and staff, National YoungArts Week+ is virtual, creating an opportunity for audiences worldwide to meet these extraordinary young artists.
The 2022 award winners are among the most accomplished 15-to-18-year-old artists in the United States. Their artistry spans 10 disciplines across the performing, visual and literary arts. We invite you to get to know them and their works through virtual performances, readings, an exhibition and film screenings, Jan. 29 through Feb. 4. Tune in for the celebration — and take note of the names of artists whose work resonates with you. We are confident you will see them again and hope you will find your own ways to support them throughout their careers.
For artists, the challenges of the past two years continue to carry significant weight. However, we are buoyed by these young artists’ courageous leaps of faith, their support of one another and the sense of pure joy felt through their connection to art.
Together, we can amplify the stories of the next generation of artists; affirm their commitment to their craft; and contribute to the cultural vibrancy of our society. We hope you will join us.
