It sure looks like Skylar Thompson did enough to make the Dolphins

MIAMI GARDENS — Skylar Thompson isn't sure exactly where he needs to be and when he needs to be there to find out if he made the Dolphins' 53-man roster.

"I have no idea," Thompson said in the Dolphins' locker room after a 48-10 defeat of the Eagles on Saturday night. " I'm trying to figure that stuff out too."

Thompson, a 7th-round quarterback from Kansas State, has plenty figured out.

Thompson wrapped up what could not have been a more impressive summer with three touchdowns at Hard Rock Stadium. At the latest, he'll know Tuesday if he made it.

"I have high expectations for myself," Thompson said. "I always have. And you know, I'm not really surprised. I mean, I put in the work going into this and I'm studying my butt off. Working my butt off to get to this point."

Thompson finished the preseason with 450 passing yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions. Thompson completed 75 percent of passes and posted a 138.4 rating.

Does he think he's made the roster?

"I think I've done everything I can do," Thompson said. "You know, everything in my control."

Thompson has a strong arm. He's cool under pressure. And he's a mature rookie.

Yes, Thompson is 25 years old, meaning there are 30 players on the roster younger than him at the moment.

But his experience is a plus. Consider how Thompson reacted after dropping a snap prior to his third touchdown pass.

Thompson scooped it up, carried out a fake handoff, rolled out and hit Lynn Bowden in the flat for a short pass he took 39 yards for a touchdown.

"I mean, you just can't have ball anxiety," Thompson said. "Whenever the stuff like that happens, you got to be calm and try to just make a play. You know, and I was lucky that it bounced right to me to where I didn't really slow the play down a ton. And so we're able to get a big play out of it. And Lynn made a great play."

On Saturday, Thompson added touchdown passes to Hunter Long and Cethan Carter.

Thompson would have gotten more attention at Kansas State if he put up gaudier passing statistics. But he's not mad about it.

"People look at my stats in college and are like, 'Oh, wow. Like, you know, we're surprised by what he's doing,' " he said. "But I believed in myself and this the whole time, you know, like, it just so happened that I threw 12 touchdowns and didn't throw for a lot of yards in college. The biggest thing for me in college was just winning games. Whatever the coaches asked me to do."

Thompson notes that his KSU coach, Chris Klieman, arrived from North Dakota State.

"Carson Wentz and Easton Stick and Trey Lance came out of the same offense," Thompson said. "So it's a very pro-like system. It definitely prepared me for this level. You know, minus, you know, whatever my stats looked like."
