A surf park may be coming to Coral Springs. ‘This could be something exciting.’

You might be able to grab a board and hit the waves in ... Coral Springs.

The City Commission is scheduled to hear a proposal Wednesday afternoon about what could become the area’s first surf park — a simulated surfing experience in a giant pool.

“We have somebody that is looking to develop a surf park,” said City Manager Frank Babinec, and the developer’s idea will be “debuted” at the public meeting.

“It’s exactly what it sounds like,” he said, and could be built in the area of the Coral Springs Sportsplex, which is located between Royal Palm Boulevard and Sample Road.

“There’s nothing in stone, it’s all conceptual at this point,” he said.

Still, “this could be something exciting.”

Commissioner Larry Vignola said he’d like to see a new waterpark feature and this could be a good addition.

“It could be a good fit,” he said. “It would be a real draw into northwest Broward County.”
