SEAL BEACH, CA — Knowing you can ski and surf on the same day is one of the biggest draws to life in Southern California. That was never more apparent than in this picture taken by Seal Beach resident and photographer Tim Western.

A recent storm brought pounding surf and pouring rain at the coast and left area mountains buried in snow. The pier in Seal Beach is the best place to capture it all, according to Western.

A manufacturing engineer by trade, photography has become his favorite hobby amid the coronavirus pandemic, he tells us. That hobby has become a side-hustle, as he set up an Etsy store to sell artistic renderingsof his favorite Southern California spots.

"Ever since the lockdown was lifted, photography has been a part-time hobby for me," Western tells Patch.

An avid hiker and snowboarder, he calls downtown Seal Beach home.

"I've hiked Mt. Baldy and love to spend time in the mountains, so getting the shot of our home town and the mountain together made me really happy," he says.
