Surge in antisemitism reaches Nashville on Sunday: 'Part of a national trend'

Police on Sunday morning investigated an email threat to the Jewish Federation of Greater Nashville and other local Jewish organizations.

The threat comes as a growing number of Jewish organizations across the country have received similar threats in wake of the Israel-Hamas war that started on Oct. 7. On Saturday, six Jewish congregations in Alabama received email bomb threats.

The Jewish Federation of Greater Nashville wrote in a social media post it immediately notified the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department of the threat and was working with local and statewide Jewish organizational leadership.

"These threats are part of a national trend to harass and intimidate American Jews,” the organization said in a statement. "We are grateful to our law enforcement partners for their support and professionalism."

Officers were dispatched to investigate Congregation Micah in Brentwood and cleared the building, according to news reports. No services were being held at the time.
