Surging Floodwaters Engulfs Bridge in Bluewater, Queensland

Police declared a flooding emergency in Bluewater, Queensland, on Wednesday, January 30, after Bluewater Creek swelled due to days of heavy rainfall, devastating properties.

Queensland Police said on Wednesday that they had been called to evacuate stranded residents.

This footage, taken by Queensland Police officers, shows floodwaters lapping at a bridge in Bluewater that is usually metres above the water level.

The Bureau of Meteorology said the “strengthening monsoon” would cause more heavy rainfall in the week to come. They said some parts of north Queensland recorded more than 500mm of rain in the past week. Credit: Queensland Police via Storyful
