Conductor's Surprise Toy Train Gift Delights Beverly 3-Year-Old
Noontime has long been a special time for Tan Tran and his son, Aiden, at the North Beverly commuter rail station.
Then on Wednesday it was the commuter rail crew's turn to make Aiden's day as they got out of the train at the stop and handed Aiden a toy train set.
"He was shocked," Tran said. "He really didn't know how to react. He didn't realize the gesture. He just took it and he gave them a high five."
Swampscott Animal Control Officer Helps Free Coyote Stuck On Boat
Swampscott Animal Control Officer Daniel Proulx was part of a police response crew that helped free a curious coyote that got caught up in quite a seafaring adventure.
Massachusetts Environmental Police said a coyote was stuck inside a docked vessel at the Volunteer Yacht Club in Lynn. Environmental officers, with help from Proulx's coyote catchpole and his expertise corralling the canines, were able to free the nautical-minded rover believed to be from a nearby wooded area of Nahant.
College Athletes Share Thoughts On A Forgotten Fall Sports Season
For Endicott College seniors such as Taylor Farrin, a CCC First-Team All-Conference from Danvers on the Endicott field hockey team, and Jaymie Caponigro, a senior captain from Swampscott on the women's soccer team, the intra-squad scrimmages livestreamed to their families at home is the best they can hope for to gain a sense of athletic spark in a year when they have lost so much due to the pandemic.
"You just try to have fun and make as many memories as you can," Capinigro determined.
Mobicuts Is Beverly's New Barbershop On Wheels
As the coronavirus health crisis devastated many small businesses, Eric Cagney found it gave him the push to strike out on his own and take his show on the road.
The Beverly High alumnus worked in barber shops for a decade before the pandemic caused the closure of personal care businesses in March. Yet, rather than wait it out until the state allowed his shop to reopen, Cagney went to work getting the camp he purchased ready to become the Mobicuts mobile barbershop he opened in June.
Danvers Hockey Star Meghan Duggan Announces Retirement
An all-time women's hockey great from Danvers announced her retirement.
Meghan Duggan, the Danvers native and U.S. Olympic team member who won a goal medal at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, made the announcement in an essay on ESPN's website after 14 years with the U.S. national team.
