SURPRISE, Ariz. - A suspect remains hospitalized following a shooting involving Surprise Police officers in a Walmart parking lot.
The shooting happened just before 4 p.m. on Feb. 6 near Bell Road and Grand Avenue.
Detectives were conducting surveillance on a 23-year-old suspect in connection to a felony investigation. When the detectives tried to take the suspect into custody, he allegedly attempted to flee the scene in his vehicle and struck a detective.
"The Detective Sergeant fired at least one round at the suspect striking him," said Peoria Police, who is investigating the shooting.
The suspect was taken into custody and hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The sergeant was taken to a hospital for evaluation and was released.
"Once the suspect is released from a local hospital, he will be booked into the Maricopa County Jail," police said. "The suspect is facing one count of Aggravated Assault."
The suspect was not identified.
