'I surrender. I surrender.' Man accused in Rose State College shooting charged with murder

The man accused in last month’s deadly shooting at Rose State College in Midwest City has formally been charged with murder.

In Oklahoma County District Court, Brandon Morrissette of Noble faces one count of first-degree murder, and one count of possessing a weapon on school property, a misdemeanor.

Morrissette is accused of shooting to death Robenie W. "RJ" Long Jr., a 20-year-old student from McLoud.

Long and Morrissette's wife, also a Rose State College student, were walking out of a building shortly before 12:20 p.m. on April 24 when they were confronted by Morrissette, a police detective reported in a court affidavit.

Morrissette's wife told police her husband believed she and the victim were having an affair, but that this "was not true and they were just friendly classmates," according to the affidavit.

She also told police Morrissette "has anger problems" and "is very controlling," according to the affidavit.

Investigators said Morrissette surrendered after being approached by officers near the humanities building of the two-year college campus, which sits just north of Interstate 40 in Midwest City.

The detective wrote in the affidavit that Morrissette got on his knees and said, “I surrender. I surrender.”

Morrissette’s wife was near Long’s body, according to the affidavit.

When an officer asked her who shot Long, Morrissette’s wife pointed at him and said, “my husband,” according to the affidavit.

Investigators at the scene located a Sig Sauer P365 pistol in a black backpack “which is where Brandon indicated it would be,” the officer wrote in the affidavit.
