Survey for businesses affected by IOW Industrial Park fire

SMITHFIELD, Va. (WAVY) – The Isle of Wight County Department of Economic Development has put out a survey for businesses involved in the Isle of Wight Industrial Park fire.

The survey asks businesses affected by the fire how they have been impacted. The aim is to help the businesses recover, stating, “These losses not only impact the property owner, business owners and their families, but also their employees and patrons.”

The fire occurred on Jan. 18 at a warehouse off of Benns Church Boulevard, which included 12 other businesses. Firefighters considered the warehouse to be a total loss.

A local emergency was declared for the area due to the potential release of hazardous materials, which included diesel fuel, propane and fiberglass.
