Susan Rice Shared a 'Totally Gross' Trump Encounter on Twitter
Donald Trump instigated a Twitter squabble with former Obama administration national security advisor Susan Rice via Twitter Friday—and Rice responded by recalling a "totally gross" 2015 encounter with Trump.
Rice appeared on Real Time with Bill Maher Friday night, where she echoed the bipartisan outcry against Trump’s decision to pull American troops from Syria. Near the end of the show, Trump directed a Twitter missive at the former United Nations ambassador.
"Susan Rice, who was a disaster to President Obama as National Security Advisor, is now telling us her opinion on what to do in Syria,” wrote Trump. "Remember RED LINE IN THE SAND? That was Obama. Millions killed! No thanks Susan, you were a disaster.”
But Rice issued a tweet of her own just a few minutes later. “Then why did you come up and hug me at 2015 WHCD when I’d never met you (which was totally gross) and whisper in my ear that I had been 'very unfairly treated' over Benghazi and 'was doing a great job for the country’?” she wrote in response.

The 2015 hug at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner was covered by The Hill at the time it occurred. The news outlet reported that Trump was seen giving Rice a "huge and dramatic hug" during the event:
The real estate mogul and potential 2016 presidential candidate was heard whispering in Rice’s ear, “Nothing’s easy in life,” as the unlikely pair flashed huge smiles on their faces and then posed for partygoers to snap some pics.
Rice and a companion were seen chuckling wildly after the embrace, quipping to one another, “What do you call that — molestation?” before cracking up some more in nearly delirious laughter.
Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad infamously crossed Obama’s "red line" in a 2013 chemical weapons attack that killed more 1,400 Syrians, and the then-president has been much criticized for responding with a diplomatic deal that destroyed hundreds of tons of Assad’s chemical weapons rather than with military action.
But all this all occurred long before Rice and Trump’s 2015 run in at the Correspondents’ Dinner. When asked about the hug at that time, nearly two years after the "red line" was first crossed, Trump reportedly described Rice as a "good woman" who held "the toughest job."
