Susanna Reid leads Good Morning Britain presenters in support for Kate Garraway: 'You are a tower of strength'

The hosts of Good Morning Britain have sent their support to Kate Garraway, after the presenter appeared on the show to give an update on her husband’s health.

On Friday, Garraway, 53, gave her first television interview since Derek Draper had been admitted to hospital with coronavirus.

Speaking on GMB, she tearfully explained that Draper is now testing negative for Covid-19, but still faces a huge health battle.

“The fight with the virus has been won and he’s still here but it’s wreaked extraordinary damage on his body and we don’t know if he can recover from that.,” Garraway told Ben Shephard and Ranvir Singh.

“One doctor said to me he’s the worst affected person he’s had to treat that has lived, thank God he’s lived so far.”

The hugely moving interview was soon followed by messages of support from her Good Morning Britain family.

Outspoken broadcaster Piers Morgan, 55, wrote: “Such a moving, emotional, inspiring interview with my fabulous friend Kate Garraway.

“So proud of you Kate, as Derek would be too. We’re all behind you, hoping and praying for a miracle.”

His co-host, 49-year-old Susanna Reid, added: “Kate you are such a tower of strength for Derek and the children. So much love for you all. Everyone watching is with you, hoping for that miracle.”

Charlotte Hawkins, 45, wrote: “The amazing Kate Garraway speaking so bravely about what her family have been through over the last 10 weeks.

“So wonderful to see her smile, but it’s just heartbreaking. Such an inspiration Kate, we love you, stay strong!”

Lorraine Kelly, 60, said: “So proud of our Kate Garraway - speaking with bravery and from the heart about her husband Derek’s fight against Covid-19. Please everyone take care of yourselves amid this crisis.”

Television correspondent Richard Arnold said: “That’s our girl. That’s our family.”

Garraway has been married to Draper, 52, for 15 years.

The pair share two children, Darcey, 14, and 10-year-old William.

Draper has been in a medically induced coma since March
