A suspect accused of killing a 29-year-old woman in Kansas City’s Northland was arrested nearly eight hours away on the same day her body was discovered.

Ashli Ehrhardt was found dead inside a home on Friday in the 7900 block of Forest Avenue. Hours later, the suspect was arrested in Valentine, Nebraska, a town nearly eight hours away from Kansas City near the South Dakota border, according to Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a spokeswoman with the Kansas City Police Department.

Gonzalez said the homicide was related to a domestic violence incident.

Officers first responded to the Kansas City home around 10:30 a.m. Friday, after a call from Ehrhardt’s employer saying it was unusual that she hadn’t shown up for work that day.

They found Ehrhardt unresponsive inside the home with unknown bodily injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The killing was the 143rd homicide in Kansas City this year, according to data tracked by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings.
