Suspect arrested in Alabama in connection with Pompano Beach fatal shooting

A man is being held in Alabama after he was arrested on a warrant for a fatal shooting in Pompano Beach.

David Alfonso Sosa, 20, was arrested after Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives obtained an arrest warrant for first-degree murder with a firearm. The suspect was taken into custody July 24 in Mobile, Alabama, based on the warrant and is being held in Mobile County.

Sosa is likely to be extradited to Broward County to face the charge for murder, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting occurred June 30 on South Dixie Highway in Pompano Beach, just blocks from Interstate 95 and East Atlantic Boulevard. BSO Regional Communications received a call about the shooting about 6:25 p.m., and when deputies arrived, they found two people with gunshot wounds. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, the other was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Sosa is believed to have shot the victim after a dispute over a debt repayment, the Sheriff’s Office said.
