A murder suspect was taken into custody on Wednesday in connection with the Feb. 20 murder of Claudia Voigt, according to the U.S. Marshals Service. Shawn Conlon, 44, was arrested at a hotel in Groton, Connecticut, after a medical examiner found signs in April that Voight, the mother of NBC Connecticut anchor Heidi Voight, had been strangled. Conlon was apparently a tenant in Claudia Voight’s Vermont home who stopped paying rent in 2022—but continued to live at the property until her mysterious death earlier this year, police said Wednesday. He now faces a second-degree homicide charge and is being held on $1 million bail. The story was widely covered after Heidi, who initially said her mom’s death was due to a medical incident, posted on social media in July revealing that Claudia was murdered. The longtime news anchor cheered the arrest Wednesday, writing on her Facebook page: “HALLELUJAH.”
