Suspect arrested after several fires intentionally set in Seattle’s Central District

Seattle police said a suspect has been arrested after several fires were set in the Central District neighborhood on Monday night.

Firefighters responded to four fires in the neighborhood, with the first reported at about 7:30 p.m. and reports continuing through 8:45 p.m.

The 27-year-old suspect was reportedly running through the yards of homes, shirtless, with a blanket over his head, according to the Seattle Police Department.

The first fire occurred in the 600 block of 37th Avenue at both the front and rear entrances of a home. This fire involved stacked, chopped firewood, patio furniture and a propane grill.

Less than an hour later, crews responded to fires outside two homes in the 500 block of 31st Avenue. One fire occurred behind a home and the other occurred near the front entrance of a home.

Crews knocked that fire down, only to be called to a fire at a home in the 500 block of 30th Avenue. According to fire officials, a stack of patio cushions behind the home was set on fire. The flames then spread to inside the home.

There was also a small outdoor fire at a home in the 3400 block of East Terrace Street that was extinguished by a resident.

The suspect was arrested at the scene of the fifth and final fire and booked into the King County Jail.

Fire investigators ruled all five fires as intentionally set and no injuries were reported in any of the fires.

The Seattle Police Department is now conducting a follow-up investigation under the suspicion of arson.
