Suspect car in fatal hit-and-run in northeast Charlotte was stolen, police say

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department detectives are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash in part of northeast Charlotte that killed a 70-year-old woman.

Officers responded to the 12400 block of North Tryon Street at 8:55 p.m. on Saturday after two cars crashed.

Officers found a 2006 Nissan Sentra and a 2021 Dodge Charger with extensive damage. The driver of the Nissan, Sandra Miller, 70, died at the scene, CMPD said in a news statement Monday.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that the Nissan was turning left from North Tryon Street onto Caprington Avenue, when the Dodge, traveling southwest at high speed, struck the Nissan in the passenger side,” police said. “Both vehicles came to rest in the southwest lanes of North Tryon Street.”

The occupants of the Dodge fled the scene on foot, police said.

According to CMPD, the Dodge had been reported stolen in Virginia two days before the fatal wreck.
