Suspect charged in Frenchtown Township break-in

A suspect has been charged in a home invasion that happened May 29 in Frenchtown Township.

Ryan Eighmey, a 30-year-old Frenchtown Township man, was arraigned Tuesday in Monroe County District Court before Judge Amanda L. Eicher on the charge of second-degree home invasion, a news release from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said. Bond was set at $50,000, and a GPS tether was ordered upon release.

Sheriff's deputies were dispatched at about 7 p.m. May 29 to the 3600 block of Nelson Drive in Frenchtown Township after receiving a report of a home invasion, the release said. Deputies arrived and discovered the suspect forced entry into the residence and stole multiple pieces of jewelry. While there, deputies canvassed the surrounding homes and developed a person of interest through surveillance video. The investigation was turned over to detectives who identified the person of interest and conducted a search of their residence. During the search, detectives recovered property taken from the victim’s home.

On Monday, detectives secured an arrest warrant for the suspect. Detectives, with the assistance of the Michigan Department of Corrections, located and arrested the suspect in Brownstown Township. He was lodged in the Monroe County Jail on home invasion and parole absconding charges.

Sheriff Troy Goodnough said in the release he thanks the people who provided tips leading to the successful apprehension of Eighmey.
