The suspect accused of shooting a man seven times in Stockton and charged with a hate crime appeared in court Friday. The San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office said the suspect, Michael Hayes, yelled racial slurs at the victim, Bobby Gayle Jr., before and after the shooting. Hayes was appointed a public defender. The defense attorney asked the judge to release Hayes and outfit him with a GPS ankle monitor, but the judge denied the request. See more in the video above.
