Man charged after Orland Park ‘domestic related’ stabbing leaves one injured

Peter Surdyk, a 43-year-old Chicago Ridge resident, faces five felony charges including attempted murder after police say he stabbed a women in the parking lot of the Life Time fitness center near the 16300 block of La Grange Road, Orland Park, just before 2 p.m. Sunday.

Surdyk drove off but police caught up to him and placed him in custody, Orland Park police said in a statement Monday. Police said they learned Surdyk knew the victim and they had “on-again, off-again relationship for the past year.”

The victim was stable and taken to a hospital, police said.

Surdyk also faces charges of aggravated domestic battery and three counts of aggravated battery.

“The club was temporarily closed as authorities conducted their investigation and we have since reopened,” a spokesperson for Life Time said in an email recalling the events Sunday.

The social media account @ArabChicago posted a video on X, formerly known as Twitter, of what appears to be a woman in the lobby of the health club being treated for her wounds by three people with shirts reading “Orland Fire Rescue.”

A bond hearing for Surdyk was scheduled for Tuesday, police said.
