Man arrested after shooting in Inverness Walmart parking lot

INVERNESS, Fla. (WFLA) — The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office said a man is in custody after a shooting happened in the parking lot of the Walmart in Inverness Monday night.

Deputies said the suspect, 30-year-old Gavin Minden, shot a person in a truck after an argument outside the Walmart located on East Gulf to Lake Highway.

The sheriff’s office said surveillance footage showed the victim’s truck approach the bus stop at the front of the Walmart. The shooting was not captured on camera, however, the truck was seen speeding off and Minden was seen running away from the scene after the incident.

Investigators said Minden shot through the back window of the truck, striking one victim in the back of the neck. The victim was taken to a hospital, where they are in stable condition. Another person in the truck was not hurt. Deputies said Minden knew the victims.

“Minden’s reckless actions in a public area not only endangered the lives of the two victims directly involved but also posed a serious threat to our citizens,” said Sheriff Mike Prendergast. “I am proud of the teamwork between our deputies and Aviation Unit for swiftly locating and apprehending Minden, preventing him from further endangering our community.”

Minden was taken to the Citrus County Jail and charged with two counts of attempted homicide and one count of shooting into an occupied conveyance.
