Driver involved in deadly bicycle crash turns himself in

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia Beach police have identified the driver involved in a fatal crash that left a 23-year-old man dead.

On Tuesday, Feb. 20, James Christopher Beckles IV was riding his bike home from work. He was walking his bike across the street at Lynnhaven Parkway and Princess Anne Road and was halfway across, when he was hit and killed.

On Friday, Feb. 23, the suspect, Rodney Coleman, 56, of Virginia Beach turned himself in for his charges. Coleman has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, reckless speed, and numerous traffic offenses.

Police say Coleman remained at the scene and was cooperative with the investigation.
