Suspect in deadly CherryVale Mall shooting arrested in Georgia

CHERRY VALLEY — Police announced Wednesday that a man wanted in connection to the fatal shooting on April 2 outside of CherryVale Mall has been arrested in Georgia.

Elijah L. Lucena, 25, of Chicago, was identified as a suspect in the shooting of Marcus McLin, 25, who was gunned down in the parking lot of Macy's, 7200 Harrison Ave.

Prior to officers arriving on scene, the suspect had driven away. Police from the beginning considered the shooting a "targeted attack."

Lucena was identified as a suspect in the shooting and a first-degree murder arrest warrant was issued.

In the early morning hours of June 17, a traffic stop was conducted on a car by the Fairburn Police Department in Georgia.

During the traffic stop, a male passenger was uncooperative, providing officers with false names. The male passenger was then arrested for obstructing a peace officer and during the booking process, fingerprints revealed the man was Lucena.

Lucena is being held in Fulton County Jail and awaiting extradition back to Winnebago County.
