Suspect who fled from Douglas County patrol car is back in custody

DENVER (KDVR) — After more than a week, a suspect is back in custody after fleeing from the back of a patrol car while handcuffed, said the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Alexander Reighart, 29, allegedly ran from deputies after he was detained for outstanding felony warrants for financial crimes and drug violations on Feb. 20 in the area of U.S. 85 and Town Center Drive.

On Thursday, the sheriff’s office confirmed Reighart was back in custody. He was located in Denver without incident thanks to assistance from the Denver Police Department and Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force.

“Although we know this manhunt should not have been necessary, I applaud the perseverance of our detectives and our partners at the Denver Police Department and the Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Fugitive Task Force to get Reighart back into custody where he belongs,'” said Sheriff Darren Weekly.
