Suspect sought after shooting inside N. Carolina Walmart on Black Friday
A manhunt was underway on Saturday for the person who opened fire inside a North Carolina Walmart on one of the busiest shopping days of the year.
Gunfire broke out inside the superstore in Lumberton around 11:30 a.m., less than a week after a mass shooting at a different Walmart store hundreds of miles away in Chesapeake, Va.
Police said the store was packed with shoppers eager to take advantage of Black Friday deals before the latest shooting unfolded. Officers arrived on the scene as the building was being evacuated. They said the shooter was able to flee amid the chaos, but that he was captured on surveillance video sneaking out of the store.
One victim self-transported to UNC Health Southeastern with a gunshot wound that did not appear to be life-threatening. Police said they were not aware of any other people injured.
Authorities believe the shooting was an isolated incident, stemming from an argument between two people.
The shooting is only the latest instance of gun violence to rock the nation in recent weeks.
Authorities in Virginia are still investigating the mass shooting at Chesapeake, carried out by a night shift leader at Walmart on Tuesday. Police said 31-year-old Andre Bing opened fire inside the store’s breakroom, fatally shooting striking six fellow employees before turning the gun on himself.
