Suspect steals tip jar, shoots man in Akron

AKRON, Ohio (WJW) – A man is in critical condition after a shooting in Akron on Thursday afternoon. Police are now looking for the suspect in this case.

According to a press release from the Akron Police Department, officers arrived at the scene of a reported shooting in the area of Delia and Wildwood Avenues just before 12:40 p.m.

Officers found a man, 25, with apparent gunshot wounds. The victim was then taken to the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition, according to the release.

According to the release, preliminary investigation shows that a suspect entered the Gas & Save located in the 800 block of W. Exchange Street and stole a tip jar from the counter.

That is when the victim, an employee of the store, followed the suspect for a few blocks down Delia Ave., where the suspect shot him.

According to the release, the suspect fled on foot.

Body recovered from Lake Erie

The victim’s name is being withheld pending further investigation, according to the release.

The suspect is believed to be about 20-25 years old with a slight mustache, according to police.
