Suspect in custody: I-83 fully reopens after manhunt

UPDATE: Pennsylvania State Police said a suspect is in custody related to a manhunt that shut down Interstate 83 this afternoon.

I-83 has fully reopened after being shut down for hours, according to the Shrewsbury Volunteer Fire Company.

Authorities are searching for a suspect wanted in an armed robbery in Springettsbury Township after he fled from a traffic stop along Interstate 83 in southern York County, according to police.

Police cars lined I-83 in southern York County between the Loganville and Glen Rock exits, and traffic was slowed on the highway.

The suspect is considered to be armed and dangerous, police said.

Springettsbury Township Police responded around 7:09 a.m. to a report of an armed robbery at the Yorkshire Apartments in the 3200 block of East Market Street, a news release states.

A vehicle police were looking for fled the scene, and it was later stopped along I-83, the release states.

One male suspect ran off, the release states. Police detained a female suspect at the scene.

In a news release, state police said the male suspect was wearing white T-shirt and gray sweatpants. He is about 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing approximately 170 pounds. He is in his early 20s and may be armed with a handgun.

State police said the public should use caution in the area. If the suspect is seen, do not approachand contact 911 or PSP York immediately. Anyone who has any information on thisincident is asked to contact PSP York at 717-428-1011.
