Suspected explosive device ‘neutralized’ by Northern California bomb technicians
An investigation is continuing after a suspected improvised explosive device found Sunday in Plumas County was neutralized by bomb technicians.
Deputies from the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report in Portola of a suspected bomb near Portola Riverwalk Disc Golf Course near the 500 block of East Sierra Avenue, according to a news release from the agency. They secured the area and called in the Butte County Inter-Agency Bomb Squad to handle the device.
Trained bomb squad members then “neutralized” the suspected IED, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
“The collaborative efforts between the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office and the Butte County Inter-Agency Bomb Squad were crucial in ensuring the safety of our community,” deputies said. “Their swift response and expertise in handling such situations played a vital role in resolving the incident without harm to anyone.”
Deputies said they are investigating the origin and reasons behind the placement of the device and working to gather available evidence.
