Suspected street race leads to 1 death in Volusia County, FHP says

A man died in a crash after engaging in a suspected street race in Volusia County on Saturday evening.

The victim, who drove a 2020 Nissan 370z, traveled west on I-4 around 7:30 p.m. when, according to witnesses, he engaged in a street race along with a Mustang and another unidentified vehicle, said Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson Lt. Kim Montes.

The driver lost control of the car and ran off the road onto exit ramp 111, near Saxon Boulevard in Deltona, Montes said.

The vehicle overturned multiple times and debris from the crash struck a second vehicle, Montes said.

The 47-year-old victim from Deland was pronounced dead on the scene. His name was not immediately released.

An investigation of the accident is ongoing.
