Suspected Waffle House robber on the loose in Lexington. Investigators asking for tips

The Bluegrass Crime Stoppers is looking for more information about an alleged robbery at a late night diner in Lexington.

Around 12:30 a.m. October 10, officers with the Lexington police Department were dispatched to the Waffle House on Winchester Road for a report of a robbery.

LPD Detective Kristyn Klingshirn said a man entered the store armed with a handgun and demanded money from the cash register. He ended up fleeing on foot before officers arrived.

The man was wearing an all-black outfit with a silver Nike logo on the sweatshirt and a silver stripe on the side of the pants, according to Klingshirn. He was also wearing a black, ski-mask style face covering.

The incident was highlighted Wednesday as the Bluegrass Crime Stoppers’ Crime of the Week.

Investigators are asking for the public to submit anonymous tips about the incident. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Bluegrass Crime Stoppers by calling 859-253-2020, online at www.bluegrasscrimestoppers.com, or through the P3 tips app available at www.p3tips.com.

There was a customer in the store when the robbery happened, according to Klingshirn. The customer left to avoid harm and wasn’t on scene to give investigators a statement.

Klingshirn said investigators are hoping to speak with the customer to gather more information about the suspect or the incident.

“We completely understand that when he felt there was a safe opportunity to leave the store, he went ahead and did it,” Klingshirn said.

There were 28 reports of robberies in August and 29 the month prior, which were the highest monthly counts of reported robberies since July 2021, according to LPD data. There have been 166 reported robberies through September this year, putting the city on pace to have more robberies this year than 2022.
