Suspects side-swipe police car, evade arrest in stolen vehicle

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police are searching for three suspects allegedly responsible for side-swiping a police car in a stolen vehicle during an attempted traffic stop Friday.

According to police, just before 6 p.m. Jan. 14, officers responded to an auto theft at the Hamlet Apartments in the 5600 block of Los Gatos Drive. They were told an Infiniti QX80 was stolen between 4:30 p.m. and 5 p.m.

On Friday just after noon, police say officers attempted to make a traffic stop on the stolen Infiniti in the area of Third Street and Latham Street.

The driver of the stolen vehicle reportedly side-swiped the officer as he was approaching the vehicle.

Reports say the driver was a man with dreads pulled to the top of his head and a gap between his top middle teeth. He was wearing a black or dark blue hooded sweatshirt with a skeleton hand giving the peace sign, black pants, and black shoes.

The other two occupants were a man and a woman.

Police say the stolen vehicle was recovered shortly after the incident in the area of East Waldorf Avenue and Grimes Street.

No arrests have been made. This is an ongoing investigation.
