After selling out of her hand-rolled, made-from-scratch chocolate chip cookies at the Sussex Main Street Block Party on Aug. 7, many people  asked, "Where can I order more?"

Mama Dough's, a new cookie business based out of Sussex, debuted its cookies at the market. Baker and owner Angela Alioto said it was her first public event.  The Waukesha West graduate made 45 dozen cookies and sold out hours before the event ended.

"I grew up in Waukesha. I was not sure what to expect for this event," said Alioto. "We had a blast. It was great getting feedback from customers."

She is working on being able to sell her cookies online and book at more markets and festivals.  Alioto wants to share her love of baking, the way that Italians do.

As a fourth-generation Italian, she said, baking and cooking were a big part of her family tradition. Many of the recipes she uses were handed down from her grandparents and parents.

"Mama's dough was inspired from the love of family and friends urging the cookies to be a staple at every event and gathering," she explained. "Each cookie is hand rolled with the best combination of classic ingredients to create the ultimate, pillowy yet chewy, sweet, but not overpowering, and perfectly buttery cookie dough."

She plans to offer different kinds of cookies soon, including walnut chocolate chip, milk and white chocolate oatmeal, peanut butter chip, mint chocolate chip, white chocolate macadamia, M&M cookies and a blueberry cookie.

While the Sussex Main Street Block Party was her first public event, she started doing some private catering events featuring her cookies earlier this summer.

She would like to continue to expand her catering events to include weddings, birthday parties, graduations, baby showers and Sunday football games. "I truly love working with families and helping make an event memorable and unique," she said.

"I started this business because baking has always been a big part of our family, especially being Italian. It started as something I made for my son's birthday parties and slowly grew as I wanted to share the cookies with more people," she said.
