Sussex County Election Day 2022: Everything you need to know

Election Day has come and gone, though votes are still being tallied. On the ballot were myriad referendum questions, municipal and school board offices, as well as each of New Jersey's 12 district seats for the House of Representatives. Voters in some cases saw unfamiliar names on their ballots, due to redistricting which took place this year and relocated many towns to other districts.

What you missed overnight

Though nothing is finalized yet, New Jersey residents are waking up Wednesday with a pretty strong picture of who will represent them in Congress for the next two years, though the race between incumbent Democrat Tom Malinowski and Repbulican challenger Tom Kean, Jr. in NJ's 7th Congressional District was too close to call last night. NJ Congressional District 8: Rob Menendez Jr. v. Marcos Arroyo

Son of United States Sen. Bob Menendez, Robert Menendez Jr. has defeated Marcos Arroyo to represent NJ’s 8th District after incumbent Albio Sires chose not to seek reelection. Menendez is a Democrat, while Arroyo is a Republican.

NJ Congressional District 9: Bill Pascrell v. Billy Prempeh

Incumbent Bill Pascrell defeated challenger Billy Prempeh in the 9th District. Pascrell is a Democrat and Prempeh is a Republican.

NJ Congressional District 10: Donald Payne Jr. David Pinckney

Incumbent Donald Payne Jr. has won reelection over challenger David Pinckney in NJ's 10th District. Payne is a Democrat and Pinckney is a Republican.

NJ Congressional District 11: Mikie Sherrill v. Paul DeGroot

Incumbent Mikie Sherrill will get another term in NJ's 11th District after defeating challenger Paul DeGroot. Sherrill is a Democrat and DeGroot is a Republican.

How do I vote in New Jersey?

In New Jersey, the polls are open from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Election Day. Voters can find their polling place and answers to other questions about voting at VOTE.NJ.GOV. NJ residents can also call 1-877-NJ-VOTER with questions.

If you requested a vote-by-mail ballot, it must be either postmarked by 8 p.m. on Election Day or delivered in person to your county's Board of Elections office by the time the polls close.

Can independents vote in midterms?

Yes. Unaffiliated voters may vote for any candidate in the midterm general election.
