Susy's Mexican Restaurant will be closing forever, dine in for the last time on Sunday

Susy’s Mexican Restaurant has served Mexican dishes to Stocktonians for the past three decades.

On Sunday, they will serve customers for the last time at the family restaurant on Harding Way in Stockton. Those who love their food can dine in one more time on Sunday, Oct. 15, during their regular hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Mexicali native Francisco Padilla, 83, opened Susy’s Mexican Restaurant in August of 1992, according to Lizette Padilla, Francisco's granddaughter.

The family did not disclose the reason behind the restaurant's closing.

“We want to thank the Stockton Community for all of the continued support throughout the 31 years we have been in business. We are thankful to have been a part of so many memories and people's lives,” Lizette said. "We enjoyed serving authentic Mexican food as well as our fresh homemade tortillas. We are sad to say goodbye but it has been a great ride. Thank you all and God bless.”

Lizette posted the closure announcement on Stockton History, a public Facebook group. The community shared memories of the restaurant online.

“Sad to see this wonderful restaurant close,” Facebook user David Archibeque said. “I’ve been going there for many years.”

“Been eating there for over two decades. Close to home, wonderful food, felt like family,” Phil Spohn said. “Doubt I’ll find another place that can replace Susy’s.”

However, Susy’s will not completely disappear as they will be offering catering services.

“The owner's son, my dad, Rudy Padilla is still going to be offering catering,” Lizette said.
