Sutton man charged in armed robbery of Country Bank for Savings in Charlton

CHARLTON – A 50-year-old man accused of robbing a bank with a gun Wednesday morning is facing charges following his arrest during a short chase through the town’s residential areas.

Jason P. Curving of Sutton allegedly robbed Country Bank for Savings on Worcester Road (Route 20) at gunpoint around 10 a.m. Wednesday, later using his pickup truck to flee the scene with the money.

Police said Curving’s Ford pickup was spotted after the robbery by an officer working a nearby traffic detail. He saw the truck head toward Carpenter Hill Road.

Curving's truck was seen by residents and officers a few miles down the road, in the area of Prindle Hill and Burlingame roads. Later, a school officer reported seeing the truck near Charlton Elementary School, approaching the intersection where Burlingame Road meets Main Street.

Curving allegedly ignored a stop sign at the intersection, drove through the lawns of a church and a residence, and quickly took a turn onto Muggett Hill Road, allegedly driving at high speed up the road.

Curving eventually came to a stop and was apprehended by police officers. The money from the robbery, plus clothing and a mask, were found in the truck, according to police.

Initially held on a $50,000 bail, Curving was ordered to be held without bail at the Worcester County House of Correction after his arraignment in Dudley District Court on Thursday.

A dangerousness hearing is pending.

Curving faces more than eight charges, including armed robbery, armed robbery while masked, stealing by confining or putting in fear, and several motor vehicle charges among others.
