SUV crashes into store in smash and grab robbery on Near West Side, police said

A group of robbers in an SUV drove into a retail store overnight on the Near West Side and snatched merchandise before escaping in several vehicles waiting outside, Chicago police said.

About 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, five to six culprits drove into a store in the 2200 block of West Taylor Street and grabbed merchandise before hopping into getaway vehicles waiting outside, police said.

The robbers left the SUV used to infiltrate the store.

No injuries were reported, and detectives were investigating.
