SUV crashes into strip mall on North Maize Road, one business affected

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — An SUV drove through the windows of a strip mall near 29th Street North and Maize Road around 11 a.m. Friday.

The driver was trapped in the vehicle for a short time but did not suffer any serious injuries.

The strip mall is home to a HomeGrown restaurant, Horton’s Carpets, Orangetheory Fitness, Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa, and Milan Laser Hair Removal.

The Wichita Fire Department says the SUV went through a front glass wall and an interior wall. Horton’s Carpets told KSN while there are no injuries, their New Market Square location is closed while repairs are made. Customers can visit the location near Maple and Ridge until the store reopens.

Victim of Wichita apartment fire has died

Businesses on both sides of the crash were evacuated until the WFD inspected the structure for safety. There was no significant structural damage, so the businesses were allowed to reopen.

There is no information on what caused the crash.
