IRIKA SARGENT: Only on 2, a mother of three hit and killed while walking just a few blocks from her home yesterday. Tonight we have an exclusive look at the speeding SUV and possible police pursuit that took her life. CBS 2 Investigator Megan Hickey joins us live with that shocking surveillance video, Megan.

MEGAN HICKEY: [? Great, ?] Irika, we're pausing the video before the impact. But we still want to warn our viewers that it's difficult to watch. And there are still plenty of questions about why this driver was driving so recklessly.

MEGAN HICKEY: We're getting an eerie look at the tragic final moments of 43-year-old Lakisel Thomas' life as she was walking along the edge of the snow at the intersection of 74th and Racine yesterday afternoon. That's when this silver SUV comes barreling through a red light. The beloved mom and longtime Evergreen Park Sam's Club cashier was taken to the hospital, but pronounced dead minutes later. Here's a look at the wreckage.

MEGAN HICKEY: The offender's silver headlight landed 100 feet away. The 19-year-old who was driving and another man tried to run away, but they were both taken into custody. Police said one of them was armed.

MEGAN HICKEY: But why was the car speeding so fast through this busy Englewood intersection? Police said they were investigating whether the crash may have stemmed from a traffic pursuit that began four blocks away. When I asked Chicago police why they might have been chasing the car that took Thomas' life, a spokesperson would only say that the Major Accidents Unit was investigating. What is clear from the video less than five seconds after the initial impact, the Chicago Police squad car with lights flashing enters the frame and officers dart towards the silver SUV.

Now at last check, charges were still pending. I spoke with some of Thomas' loved ones today. No one was up to appearing on camera. But they said she was a hard worker, a loving mother, and she will be greatly missed, Irika.

IRIKA SARGENT: All right, Megan, thank you.
