Swastikas and hate speech: What we know about the vandalism in Nashville's Sylvan Park

Metro Nashville Police are asking the public for information about two people who spray painted swastikas and unspecified "hate messages" on five homes in the Sylvan Park neighborhood early Sunday.

The request for information comes as Chief John Drake orders increased patrols in the Sylvan Park area, as well as for areas around Nashville's Jewish institutions.

Video footage from one of the damaged homes shows what appears to be two white men with their faces covered.

One of the suspects spray-painted the home's Ring camera when they arrived shortly before 1:30 a.m., according to police.

Investigators say homeowners in the area with surveillance systems may also have video evidence and should check.

Similar incidents happened to homes on Westlawn Drive, and on Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado and Idaho Avenues.

Investigators on Sunday said nothing else about the properties was targeted.

Anyone thinking they might recognize the individuals is asked to contact Nashville Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
