SWAT officer kills dog that attacked during raid

GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio (WJW) — A SWAT officer serving a warrant in the city shot and killed a dog when it attacked inside the home, according to authorities.

Garfield Heights Police Chief Mark Kaye said members of the Southeast Area Law Enforcement SWAT team this week assisted Cleveland police in serving a homicide warrant at a home along Osborn Road in Garfield Heights.

“Upon entering the home, a SWAT member was attacked by a dog and one shot was fired at the dog,” Kaye said.

The dog died of its injuries.

No other shots were fired, either at SWAT members or the home’s occupants, Kaye said.
