Swearing in of new Division 10 judge Kayla Jackson-Williams set

The Boone County Circuit Court officially will have a new judge starting Jan. 20.

Kayla Jackson-Williams will have her swearing-in ceremony 4 p.m. that date from the ceremonial courtroom on the third floor of the Boone County Courthouse.

She will preside over associate circuit and civil cases and adult abuse cases. along with other cases assigned to her by Presiding Judge Brouck Jacobs for Division 10.

"We are excited to welcome Judge Jackson-Williams to the bench as our colleague and she has already hit the ground running." Jacobs said in a news release.

Prior to Jackson-Williams election to the bench, she was a senior associated attorney in civil litigation with Rogers, Ehrhardt, Weber & Howard, LLC. She also had three years experience assistant public defender with the Missouri State Public Defender's Office.

She received her law degree from the University of Missouri, earning membership in the Order of Barristers, an honor given to ten graduates yearly.

She has memberships in Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and Jack and Jill of America, Inc., and serves as a member of the Missouri Supreme Court's Juvenile Justice and Child Welfare Committee and the Missouri Supreme Court's Commission for Racial and Ethnic Fairness.

Jackson-Williams is mom to Mackenzie, 6, and a labradoodle named Mocha Marshmallow.

She was destined to be a judge said fellow Judge Joshua Devine, who first interacted with Jackson-Williams when she was a public defender.

"She was well-prepared and knowledgeable, and had a tremendous presence in the courtroom," he said. "But what made Kayla truly special in my judgment was that she treated every single one of her clients with incredible dignity and compassion.

"...Kayla's passion for people is one of her greatest assets, and that asset will serve the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit well for many years to come."
