Swedish Campaigner Thunberg Tells EU: 'Forget Brexit and Focus on Climate Change'

Climate activist Greta Thunberg addressed a packed European Parliament in Strasbourg on Tuesday, April 16, and urged leaders to forget Brexit and focus instead on pressing climate issues.

The Swedish teenager, who founded began the “school strike” movement, shed tears during her speech as she urged EU leaders to face up to the realities of climate change.

“If our house was falling apart,” she said, “you wouldn’t hold three emergency Brexit summits and no emergency summit regarding the breakdown of the climate and the environment.”

She received a standing ovation from the packed gallery. Thunberg has previously addressed the UN Climate Change Summit in Poland and the World Economic Forum in Davos. Credit: European Parliament via Storyful
