Sweep of Crown locks UWS volleyball into second in UMAC

Oct. 28—ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. — Wisconsin-Superior guaranteed itself second place in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference volleyball standings after a quick 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-13) sweep at Crown on Thursday night, Oct. 27.

Alexie Pryd led the UWS offense with 14 kills, while Maiana Stark added six.

UWS took over the opening set with a 12-1 run, then had runs of six and four in the second set and a run of seven in the third to put away a Polars squad still looking for its first conference win.

Jenna Anderson, who reached 1,000 digs for her collegiate career in a nonconference match on Tuesday at Wisconsin-Eau Claire, added 14 more to her total on Thursday to lead all players. Colleen Claude led UWS (15-11, 11-2 UMAC) with 10 assists.

The result locks UWS into the second seed in the four-team UMAC tournament next week. The third seed is known already, too, which means the Yellowjackets will play for pride on Friday at Minnesota Morris, then meet the Cougars again on Wednesday in Superior for a spot in the league championship match.
